Asbury Park Public Library Community Events
African American Music Heritage Project & Friends Of Group Meeting
Meetings regarding two Asbury Park Public Library initiatives will be held this week.
The first up will be a community gathering for the ongoing African American Music Heritage Project aimed at celebrating the stories and the once vibrant music history that dotted the westside community.
The 7 p.m. Thursday event will include an opportunity for members of the public to share their memories through sharing photos and memorabilia, as well as participating in interview booths.
Local artist Charles Trott helps curate a Springwood Avenue exhibit, running in conjunction with June’s African American Music Appreciation month.
The African American Music Heritage Project, funded in part bya $13,800 NJ Historical Commission grant, is a community-driven initiative, library board trustee Jennifer Souder has said. The group of volunteers are working in partnership with the municipality, neighborhood and youth historians, the Asbury Park Historical Society, Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music, Classic Urban Harmony, the Proper Foundation, and the Asbury Park School District, to name a few.
Next up will be a 9 a.m. Saturday Friends of the Asbury Park Public Library meeting.
Anyone wishing to help or be a part of this fundraising group is welcome to attend. Discussions will include forming a steering committee.
