A Monday evening motor vehicle accident that resulted in a vehicle crashing into a vacant building along Route 35 north remains under investigation, Ocean Township Police officials announced via a written news statement.

When police arrived near 6:11 p.m., they found that a 2010 Chevy Cobalt had impacted a vacant business causing significant damage, officials said. As a result of the damage EMS, Fire and the township’s  Building Inspector were dispatched to the scene.

According to the preliminary investigation, the Chevrolet’s driver, later identified as Natalie Cook of Crosswicks, was traveling in the left lane when she attempted to shift to the right lane. Officials said Cook failed to see a motorist on her right and a collision with the vehicle caused her to run off the roadway and into the building.

She was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for minor injury  treatment. A passenger in her vehicle sustained a small laceration and was treated at the scene and released, officials said. The driver of the impacted vehicle was not injured.

Police Officer Phil Jackson of the Traffic Safety Bureau responded.
