OTPD: Find My IPad App helps Nab Serial Burglary Suspect
Neptune Man Faces Two counts Burglary and Theft Charges
The Find My iPad App helped Ocean Township Police capture an attempted serial burglary suspect, according to a news statement.
John Reid Jr, 39, of Neptune is charged with two counts of attempted burglary, one count of burglary, and one count of theft, officials said.
The arrest is related to burglary attempts that occurred during the overnight hours Tuesday, officials said. The first incident was related to an attempted motor vehicle burglary at a naomi Drive home. The homeowner’s surveillance system alerted them to movement in the driveway, and after reviewing the surveillance footage, a male was observed attempting to enter the locked vehicle parked in their driveway.
Later that day, a resident in the same neighborhood reported a motor vehicle burglary had occurred during the overnight. An iPad was stolen from their unlocked vehicle but the homeowner used the Find My iPad technology installed in the device, which led officials to a Wayside Road residence in Neptune Township.
Reid was located and taken into custody without incident, officials said. He was remanded to Monmouth County Jail, pending an initial court appearance.
Police Officer Matthew Guido and Detectives Chris Brady, Michael Legg and Steven Walker investigated.
