Saturday Summer Fashion Show In Support Recreation
Kendle: Seasonal Event Aimed At Bringing Community Together In Support of New Programming
A little fun, comedy and flair is planned for Saturday when Councilman Jesse Kendle and the Recreation Committee hosts its inaugural Fashion Show from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Harold Daley VFW Post #1333, located at 701 Lake Ave.
Everyone from local, state and County dignitaries to local business owners, members of the Asbury Park Police Department and community will walk the runway donning summer fashions, said Kendle, who heads the committee.
Those who have signed on to showcase summer fashions include: fellow City Council members Yvonne Clayton and Eileen Chapman, Chamber of Commerce’s Sylvia Sylvia Cioffi and Matt Whelan, US Congressman Frank Pallone Jr and Sen. Vin Gopal, Freeholder Tom Arnone, as well as Assembly Members Joann Downey and Eric Houghtaling.
Keep an eye out too for City Council Attorney Fred Raffetto, the BOE’s Angela Ahbez Anderson and Sheila Etienne, School Principal Reginald Mirthil, Karen Davis, Hope Academy’s Dennis Daniels, Alphabets Preschool’s Esther Piekarski.
Also scheduled to walk the runway are Jenn Lampert from the Asbury Festhalle & Biergarten, Doug Eagles from the Boys & Girls Club, Sgt Eugene Dello – in tow with few fellow officers, Jesse Ricks, Leesha Floyd, and Planning and Zoning official Barbara Van Wagner.
“I tried to make this an event that will bring the community together, as well as the various people we deal with every day but don’t get a chance to come together outside of conducting business,” Kendle said. “This will be the first time a lot of our participants will get a chance to meet one another.”
The event is being held to help fund a program expansion campaign, Kendle said.
“We’re trying to add more programs that will serve not only our youth but also our adult community,” he said. “We’ve had success with our youth events, like our Trunk or Treat, but we’d like to add things like line dancing, a bocce tournament and even a special olympics for our children.”
Kendle, who has chaired the committee for the past four years, said they work closely with the Mayor’s Wellness Committee, the City’s Special Events Committee, and the school district, which administers a youth mentoring program led by Abhbez Anderson.
The event features a brunch buffet and music by the Tyron McAllister Jazz Band. McAllister is a veteran Asbury Park Police officer who works in the school district. Good Hope Baptist Church Pastor David Harrington will be honored for his over 20 year service in the community.
Tickets to the 1 to 4 p.m. event are $10, available at City Hall. For more information, call 732-502-5759.
