Music Mondays at Springwood Avenue Park Comes To A Wrap
Sensational Soul Cruisers Headlines Free Concert Series Tuesday Finale
With Labor Day on the horizon, it means the end of the popular Music Mondays at Springwood Park Concert Series.
The Sensational Soul Cruisers headlines this collaborative City of Asbury Park sponsored series, with the Mayors Players opening the Tuesday night show.
“The Asbury Park Music Foundation created this concert series with a commitment to unite our community, support local musicians and inspire youth with live music,” Councilwoman Eileen Chapman [at right] said. “And it’s done just that. The series has been a huge hit – it’s drawn visitors and residents from all over Asbury Park who have looked forward to Monday nights this summer. The popularity of the series has grown over the last three years and we’ve set the bar high for next summer.”
The free concert series featured an array of soul, funk, R&B, hip hop and jazz acts.
Popular shows this season, which launched on June 25, included a surprise performance from Remember Jones, with local group King Ramses opening the July 30 show. The concert brought out over 700 attendees.
Other high drawing shows featured hometown favorite, Billy Brown of Ray, Goodman and Brown on July 2; Des & The Swagmatics; the Louis Prima Band; and the Black Suburbia Music Group.
Opening acts for the series featured those with roots in the Asbury Park community, including the Hip Hop Institute, Choir School of Asbury Park, Lake House Kids, and Anya & PJ.
The last concert in the series kicks off 6 p.m. Tuesday. There is free parking and easy access by train and bike. Concert goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets and the neighboring Kula Cafe is open for refreshments and food.
Series sponsors included Interfaith Neighbors, the Asbury Park Press, Madison Marquette, and NJ Natural Gas.
