Cryolete Opens in The Shops At Sunset Point On Memorial Drive
Japanese Cool Treatment Offers Weight, Pain & Wellbeing Management
Months after opening Beach Box, a smart kickboxing studio with tech amenities that track member’s progress, Wayne Strobel is expanding.
Joined by Fred Mohr, Strobel has launched Cryolete, a neighboring cryotherapy boutique that offers slimming, toning and non surgical facial lift therapies.
Their grand opening weekend celebration launches 9 a.m. Saturday inside The Shops At Sunset Point at 1319 Memorial Drive and features $25 Whole Body Cryotherapy ‘Chills,’ complimentary Cryolete Skin Consultations, Mini Facials, 20 percent off packages, like three freezes for $109 or three months for $999.
So what is cryotherapy?
In a nutshell, the whole body therapy is a three minute flash freezing process inside a nitrogen tank to manage everything from weight, pain and injury to mental wellbeing, workout recovery, immunity and metabolism. The Japanese cold treatment has been used since the 1970s to treat multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.
“We are literally freezing the fat, we are destroying the cells,” Mohr said.
An ultrasound-like machine is used for slimming and toning specific areas, including the facelifts. They start by warming the cells and then transmit a negative 7 degree celsius cooling.
“The really cool thing about this is that it is relaxing,” Strobel said. “It’s not like a procedure; it feels like getting a massage.”
Inside the state of the art cryo boutique is a waiting room, the croylete tank, changing room and private Cryolete treatment room. In the back, the duo have added a work out area to help those who want to opt for a more private one-one workout; available through Beach Box or a part of their cryo treatments.
“This is about your own experience and finding your own comfort zone,” Mohr said.
Soon, they will add an Infrared Sauna and NormaTec compression – boots that use pulse technology to push out lactic acid and increase blood flow in the legs.
After being laid off from his job last January, Strobel, who had been searching to no avail for interactive experience that combines strength training with heavy bag kickboxing, decided to create one.
Beach Box opened its doors in February and has been growing ever since. Their member rewards program offers incentives based on partnerships with local businesses, and they have new trainers that bring a unique twist to the kickboxing workout world.
“These women bring their A game,” said Mohr, a fireman by trade who went from a curious member to partner in the new venture. “Now members can come at different time slots and get different experiences depending on who is here.”
Mohr, a Springfield native who has called Eatontown home for the past 7 years, and Strobel, a Woodbridge native who has called Neptune home for the past five years, met when the latter first opened his doors.
“He propped the doors open and I said, ‘oh wait that looks like a gym,” Mohr said. “He was in between classes and explained the whole concept of the business. I was fascinated that he was actually able to build that place all on his own muster, and the enhancement with the technology was great. I started working with him and eventually this opportunity came to partner up with him and I jumped at it.”
They currently employ five people.
Opening up a business in Asbury Park was a draw because of its entrepreneurial spirit, Mohr said.
“Asbury Park is a thriving beach community,” he said. “It’s not a sleepy community; it has action but it also has the quiet spots. The entrepreneurial spirit is personified here and coming from a place of abundance. Everyone here operates from the heart and there is more than enough to go around. Nobody is stingy, everyone is collaborating, and there are ways to make things work. It’s fascinating and it excites me.”
Strobel and Mohr convinced me to give the nitrogen tank a try.
“We started off at 45 degrees and now it’s down to negative 40 degrees,” he said as I made my way into the black chamber. “We’re going to bring it to negative 110 degrees.”
They explained that my body’s fight or flight reaction to the temperature would help reduce inflammation, chronic pain and stimulate collagen production. The procedure would burn 300 calories in just three minutes.
Honestly it was infantinatley less rigorous than the 20 minute ice baths I once endured as an athlete. I felt a bit giddy but definitely more relaxed.
The Cryolete Grand Opening Celebration will run through the weekend. They are open 10 am to 7 pm Monday through Friday and 8 am to 6 pm Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call 732-800-6011 or visit the website and Facebook page.
