Saturday’s nor’easter forecast has prompted an early jump on the Deal Lake Commission’s fall cleanup, originally scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Deal Lake boat ramp, located at 801 Seventh Ave at the intersection of Main Street next to the 7-11 Convenience Store.

“The weather has won, the conditions on Saturday will be unsafe for any clean-up activities,” Commission Chair Don Brockel said. “The DLC will be at the Boat ramp today from 2-5 pm to do our best to pick up as much as possible while the lake is low.”

The Commission will host a Nov 17 cleanup in conjunction with Monmouth University’s ‘Big Event,’ which brings approximately 400 out to volunteer at 25 to 30 sites in the towns that surround the West Long Branch campus, Brockel said. Wet weather appropriate clothing is recommended.

The lake was lowered Wednesday to allow shore line residents the opportunity to clear debris from their shore line property, Brockel said.
