Bamboozle will not return to Asbury in 2013
City, LiveNation will still work together on future events
Officials from LiveNation have decided not to bring Bamboozle back to Asbury Park again in 2013, city manager Terence Reidy has confirmed.
“They’re making an economic decision to try another site for 2013,” Reidy said. “They’re still going to work with the city [on other events], but for Bamboozle they’re looking elsewhere.”
Last year was the three-day music festival’s 10th anniversary and its first time since 2005 returning to its Asbury birthplace. From 2005 to 2011, it took place in the Meadowlands.
The city made $200,000 from the three-day festival, which took place on May 18, 19 and 20.
The festival was brought to the city last year as a result of the city and Madison Marquette’s desire to bring a concert to the beach, Reidy said. “It was a lot more informal and then it grew into a conversation about Bamboozle.”
Now that Bamboozle won’t come back next year, the city will look at other opportunities for similar events with both LiveNation and other promoters, Reidy said. He emphasized that this is not a parting-of-ways for the city and LiveNation. The concert promoter has put on events at the Stone Pony, the Wonder Bar, Convention Hall and the Paramount Theater in the past.
“From the city’s standpoint, Bamboozle was a great experience,” Reidy said. “The actual execution of the festival itself was flawless … We learned this is a place where we can effectively manage an event of that nature.”
