The Asbury Park City Council announced Friday the beginning of a public comment period for the North End Boardwalk Project.
Comments from concerned residents, visitors and businesses for proposed improvements to the North End Boardwalk area will be collected via online and by handwritten submission through Dec 23, according to a written statement on the City’s website.
Comments collected from the online form, as well as from the Nov 7 City Council Meeting, will be incorporated into draft designs of the North End Boardwalk area and presented during a yet to be determined public meeting.
This public meeting will be done charrette-style where attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the designers and provide immediate feedback on designs, officials said. The approach was used during the CHOICE Neighborhood public meetings this past year.
“We are aiming to have an all-encompassing public arena for voices to be heard,” Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn said. “And we’ll accomplish this by opening up a pre-comment period, then a public charrette style meeting, followed by a public presentation of the final draft design.”
In the interim, City officials will work with iStar to create a temporary solution to the now stalled infrastructure improvement project.
“With iStar’s cooperation, the City is looking at installing temporary ramps for access to the beach and is cautiously optimistic these ramps can be installed before Memorial Day 2019,” said City Manager Michael Capabianco, “There’s a lot to do in a short amount of time with design, permitting and bidding issues that have to be completed before a contract can be awarded.”
The public comment form for the North End Boardwalk Project is available at https://seam.ly/4Y2Li02d and through a link on the homepage of the City’s website at cityofasburypark.com. Printed copies will be available in the reception area at City Hall.
