The Asbury Park City Council has announced a public participation meeting will be held from 7 to 9 pm Jan. 15 at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School, located at 600 Monroe Ave.

The charrette-style meeting will allow attendees to vet proposed draft design options for the North End Boardwalk area, which includes refurbishing the boardwalk, upgrading the Fisherman’s parking lot.

“The charrette-style meeting was proven to be a highly successful way to integrate public feedback during the CHOICE Neighborhood public meeting.” Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn said. “We’re using this format for the next step of the North End Boardwalk project because public opinion is incredibly important to the outcome.”

The original infrastructure design plan sparked opposition in the from of a petition signed by over 2,000 from the grassroots Save Asbury’s Waterfront [SAW] group, and drew an audience of 400 when it presented during a November City Council workshop meeting.

City officials said the draft designs are based on ideas collected from concerned residents, visitors and businesses over the Dec 7 to 23 comment period, as well as from the Nov 7 City Council Meeting.

The final draft design will be unveiled during a future public presentation.
