Asbury Park Women’s Convention Returns March 30
Second Annual Event Panels To Address Cannabis & Wellness, Being A Trans Ally, and Agreeing To Disagree
With a new twist, vibe, and venue, the team behind the Annual Asbury Park Women’s Convention [APWC] have announced this year’s event will take place from 10 am to 3 pm at the legendary Stone Pony, located at 913 Ocean Ave.
“I’m really excited about the venue change to the Stone Pony,” Co-Founder and Comedian Jess Alaimo said. “The Paramount was amazing but the Pony will have a totally different vibe and we’re excited to try something new. I’m especially excited for the Cannabis panel.”
Aimed at addressing issues that affect women across party lines in an engaging and realistic manner, the nonpartisan event promises to not only educate and entertain but to leave the audience inspired with direction on how to bring forth change.
“We are once again thrilled to host an event which brings together women of different ethnicities, political affiliations, and ages to ensure all our voices are being heard on issues that matter to us all,” Co-Founder Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn said.
The inaugural sold-out event, held in February 2018, drew a crowd of over one thousand to the historic Paramount Theatre for topical panels on everything from Equal Pay and Women’s Healthcare to Sexual Violence. Participants included Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, former Lt Governor Kim Guadagno, Freeholder Ashley Bennett, Comedian Julia Scotti, and local Assemblywoman Joann Downey.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to bring APWC to the Stone Pony this year,” Co-Founder Councilwoman Yvonne Clayton said. “The APWC was not just a one-time event. Every year we will be doing something new, different, and exciting. We know that both women and men will come out and support us.”
This time around the panels will focus on Cannabis and Wellness, Being A Trans Ally [in conjunction with Garden State Equality], and Agreeing To Disagree.
“Empowering women has been a main goal of mine- especially since the Women’s March,” organizer and Women’s March AP Co-Founder Dani Fiori said. “I love what APWC accomplished in bringing women together with their convention.”
Sponsored in part by The Stone Pony and The ShowRoom Cinema, the 10 am March 30 event will open with an hour-long networking meet and greet to give women the opportunity to connect. Local women-owned venues will once again provide the fare. Organizers say stay tuned for the unveiling of speakers, musicians, and panel
Tickets are $10 in advance for standing room only, $15 for general admission seating, and $20 at the door. No one will be turned away at the door for lack of funds, organizers said. Tickets can be purchased via stoneponyonline.com or via ticketmaster.com. For more information, visit apwomensconvention.com.
