Asbury Park boardwalk redeveloper Madison Marquette has announced structural repairs are set to begin at Sunset Pavilion, home of the Wooden Walls mural project.

Led by Parlor Gallery’s Jen Hampton, the collaborative project launched in 2015 with a mission to enrich the socio-cultural and -economic landscape through art. Today the murals are a popular destination, drawing global recognition through feature articles in everything from the Guardian UK and Conde Nast Traveler to the New York Times and Juxtapoz art magazine.

“We will be undergoing structural repairs and stabilization in preparation for the summer season,” Marketing Director Pasquelina DeBoer said in a written statement. “As a result, the perimeter of the building will be temporarily closed until early May.”

DeBoer said the structural testing and safeguarding of the building’s exterior will mean closure of the pedestrian ramps to the north and south of the pavilion, which is located between Sunset and Sixth avenues.

“While repairs are underway, signage will be up to safely guide pedestrians to the sidewalk,” DeBoer said. “We are working to return access to our boardwalk murals as soon as possible.”
