Asbury Essentials Celebrates City Entrepreneurs
Inaugural Biz Committee June 18 Event To Be Held in Gateway To The City - The Transportation Center
With a mission to celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit that helped to revitalize Asbury Park, the local Business Committee will host ‘Asbury Essentials’ from 5 to 9 pm June 18 at the Asbury Park Transportation Center, the official gateway to the city located at 1 Municipal Plaza.
And with a style and flare that can only be made from the municipal ad hoc committee, the official invitation comes by way of actor Brian Baumgartner, who portrayed the dimwitted Kevin Malone on The Office. With his signature humor, Baumgartner says the event will feature “killer cocktails, donuts, cookies, and oo hoo chile; nice. There will be live music from DJs, and there will also be cover bands, and there may be, if you are lucky, a special appearance from [his famed fictional band] Scrantonicity II.” [See below:]
The free event will kick off with a 5 to 6 pm cocktail hour and toast to “each and every Asbury Park local business, their alliance, the political leadership, Chamber of Commerce, local entrepreneurs and enterprising businesses,” organizer said in a written statement.
“Highlighting Kevin Hebb’s new mural ‘Somehow I Always Knew,’ the cocktail hour, which takes place in the Transporation Center’s underpass, incorporates a strikingly fitting motif for our transformational march forward,” said Committee member Adam Nelson. “Using this unexpected location underscores an evening in celebration of our true creative edge, wonderfully weird cultural capacities, and most importantly –- our enterprising entrepreneurial spirit.”
The 7 to 9 pm celebration will move inside the Transportation Center waiting room to further foster community connection and an exchange of ideas and resources. Entertainment will include comedians, musicians, live art, social media selfie stations, vendor tables, gift bags, and door prizes.
“[We hope] to explore a potent portal of community collaboration; one that showcases our cityscape in all quarters and initiates opportunities to share mutual marketing, collective event calendars, and instrumental ideation in advance of our Summer, 2019 season,” said Nelson, owner of Workhouse PR. “The aim and intention of our event is to strengthen a bond between businesses while assisting in understanding how we can communally establish and sustain all aspects of Asbury Park commerce, year round.”
Nelson said the Asbury Park Business Committee hopes to draw participation from all businesses located across the four city quadrants.
The event is sponsored in part by ASBURY PARK DISTILLING CO, CRYOLETE, LAKEHOUSE MUSIC ACADEMY, MONMOUTH & OCEAN COUNTY AWNING, JUICE BASIN, NEW LIFE BARBER, MARILYN SCHLOSSBACH CATERING & EVENTS, PROVEN POKE, PURPLE GLAZE, and SWEET DANI B.
