Quinn To Grand Marshal 5th Annual Promenade of Mermaids
An APYC Afterparty, Mermaid Flix & A Pool Party On the Bill Through Sunday
Saturday marks the fifth anniversary of the annual Promenade of Mermaids, an event that attracts hundreds [if not thousands] of all ages donning their best mermaid wears to the Asbury Park waterfront.
This year, the City’s own Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn will serve as the parade’s Grand Marshal.
“I have never been a Grand Marshal before,” Quinn said in thanking founder Jenn Mehmaid and her team of organizers and volunteers. “I love that the first time is for the Fifth Annual Promenade of Mermaids. I can’t wait to check out the costumes, vendors and prizes, and I’m thrilled that Catsbury is getting a portion of the proceeds.”
Organizers say over 30 vendors selling all things mermaid – from art, jewelry and clothing to craft products and face painting will be a part of the offerings from 10 am to 4 pm Saturday at Bradley Park, located along Ocean Avenue between Fifth and Sixth avenues.
Registration for the costume contest is $10, with the Promenade kicking off at 2 pm. Led by the Gypsy Funk Squad, the parade route kicks off at Bradley Park, traverses along the boardwalk, and returns to Bradley Park for judging.
The Sharquidance ladies will perform their bell dance set at 3 pm prior to the 3:30 pm Costume Contest and naming of the king and queen. By 4 pm, an after-party kicks off at the Asbury Park Yacht Club, located at 1000 Ocean Ave.
All things mermaid continue through the weekend with a 7 pm screening of Splash at The Asbury’s Baronet rooftop theater. From noon to 4 pm Sunday, The Asbury will host a Mermaid Swim pool party; followed by a 7 pm screening of The Little Mermaid.
