Electric Vehicle Charging Stations On The Horizon In Asbury Park
Manzella: Mattison Avenue Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Installation Makes Way For E-Car Share Launch
Installation of electric vehicle charging stations in Asbury Park has begun, City officials announced Friday afternoon. Completion of the first hub, located on Mattison Avenue between Main and Bond streets, is nearing completion.
“We are proud to support electric vehicles in Asbury Park and lead the charge along the Jersey Shore to help reduce our carbon footprint,” said Mayor John Moor said in a written statement. “Being green and planning for a healthy future is important to the City of Asbury Park.”
The City partnered with Greenspot, a smart-mobility company that specializes in the development and installation of publicly accessible electric vehicle [EV] charging stations and electric mobility solutions, which includes EV rentals.
The Mattison Avenue charging station will feature four electric vehicle paid parking spaces, Transportation Director Michael Manzella said.
“Once the EV charging stations are operational on Mattison Avenue, work will begin on six additional spaces [along] Sunset and Springwood avenues,” Manzella said. “This will allow us to then move forward with an EV car share program – which is exciting for Asbury Park since almost one-third of our households are zero-car households. A program like this will help improve accessibility for residents, reduce the demand for parking and personal car ownership, and serve as an amenity for visitors.”
Greenspot, based in Jersey City, has installed approximately 50 charging stations across its northeastern community and administers the municipal EV car share program. Installations continue across the state as well as in Massachusetts, Ohio, New York, Rhode Island, and in Israel.
“At Greenspot, our mission is to develop comprehensive charging infrastructure enabling the widespread adoption of electric vehicles, as well as offering shared mobility solutions as an alternative to car ownership,” Chief Operating Officer Michael Mazur said. “Ultimately we want to help reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable methods of transportation that mitigate our reliance on fossil fuels.”
Asbury Park is among the first municipalities along the Jersey Shore to offer the service, city officials said.
