Pascal & Sabine Gets One-Of-A-Kind Visit From Namesakes
Brooklyn Couple Gets Engaged At Downtown Asbury Park Eatery
The popular downtown Asbury Park French eatery Pascal & Sabine were host to a couple of unique patrons Saturday.
“A young man named Pascal drove two hours with his girlfriend, Sabine, to dine with us. He proposed and she said yes! Cheers to our real-life Pascal & Sabine,” read the Monday Instagram post.
A spokeswoman for the Smith-owned French brasserie said ‘an outpouring of love for the pair” ensued. At the time of this posting, less than 24 hours later, there were over 1500 likes.
Pascal & Sabine, located at 601 Bangs Ave, was named for characters in the 1956 short The Red Balloon. Writer, producer and director Albert Lamorisse named the characters after his children.
The real-life Pascal and Sabine are Haitian natives who live in Brooklyn, Smith Director of Community Relations Director Francesca Cwynar said. And while their meal consisted of French Onion Soup, quiche and a burger, the eatery has pledged to comp their meals every Oct. 5, in perpetuity.
“The couple gave us permission to share this image of the event on social media and there was an outpouring of love for the pair,’ Cwynar said. “We intend to have them back every year to commemorate this special day at what may be the most fitting destination for the union to have been solidified.”
