Seven candidates file for city council
Three seats up for grabs in non-partisan election on Nov. 3
Seven city council candidates have filed their nominating petitions by today’s 4 pm deadline, according to City Clerk Melody Hartsgrove. Three council seats are up for grabs.
Council elections in Asbury Park are non-partisan, with candidates running in one column without party affiliation. The council seats have four year terms. The election is Nov. 3.
The three incumbents currently holding the seats — Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn, Councilwoman Eileen Chapman and Councilwoman Yvonne Clayton — filed petitions to run together. They will run as the Asbury Together ticket.
Also filing petitions are community activists Kerry Butch and Felicia Simmons, who will run together as a team. Simmons is a former board of education member.
Two more candidates have filed petitions and will run as independents: Robert McKeon, an Asbury Park based attorney, and Arthur Schlossbach who has operated businesses in the area.
The two other seats on the council are held by Mayor John Moor and Councilman Jesse Kendle. Their four year terms expire in 2022.
