Coaster newspaper endorses Quinn, Chapman and Clayton for Council
"Asbury Park has come a long way from the despair of the 80s"
The Asbury Park based Coaster newspaper has endorsed Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn and her running mates, Council members Eileen Chapman and Yvonne Clayton, for reelection to The Asbury Park City Council.
The newspaper cited years of state-funded transitional aid finally coming to a halt, property taxes stabilizing, a tax collection rate that’s soared and new housing and development on the West Side of the city.
“None of these thing happened by chance. It was due to hard work and leadership,” the Coaster said in its endorsement of Quinn, Chapman and Clayton.
Also seeking the three council seats up for grabs are Kerry Margaret Butch and Felicia Simmons, who are running as a team, and independents Robert McKeon and Arthur Schlossbach.
“Over the last four years under the leadership of Mayor John Moor and with Council Members Amy Quinn, Eileen Chapman, Yvonne Clayton and Jesse Kendle the city has thrived,” said the Coaster’s endorsement editorial.
“The manta heard in Asbury Park over the last few years has been: Asbury Park has come a long way from the despair of the 80s. A true statement…but we don’t want to see it stopped now. That is why we endorse candidates Amy Quinn, Eileen Chapman and Yvonne Clayton for City Council,” the newspaper stated in its endorsement.
The newspaper also endorsed the Board of Education slate led by incumbent Board member Giuseppe “Joe” Grillo and his running mates Carritta Cook and Wendi Glassman.
“These three have the experience and knowledge to repair serious problems in the district,” the Coaster endorsement stated.
Also in the running for the three available Board of Education seats are Anthony Remy and Iman-Mtume Hall, who are running together as a team.
