Remy takes lead for third seat in Board of Ed race
Leads Wendi Glassman by 93 votes with provisional ballots still to be counted
Anthony Remy has taken the lead in the race for the third available seat in the Asbury Park Board of Education race, according to the website of the Monmouth County Clerk.
Remy had previously trailed Wendi Glassman for the third seat, but with 97 percent of the mail-in ballots counted that had been received by election day, Remy is now up by 93 votes. Remy’s total is 2301 and Glassman’s is 2208.
The figures were updated at 5:17 pm on Tuesday.
The high vote-getter remains Carritta Cook with 2943, followed by incumbent board member Giuseppe “Joe” Grillo at 2529. Cook, Grillo and Glassman ran together as a ticket.
Remy ran on a ticket with Iman-Mtume Hall who has 1914 votes.
According to the County Clerk’s website, still to be counted are about 50 percent of qualified disabled voters who cast ballots on election machines. Also to be counted are provisional ballots, which a voter casts at an election location when his or her eligibility to vote needs to be confirmed.
There were 627 provisional ballots cast in Asbury Park, according to an unofficial count.
There are nine-members of the Board of Education who serve three-year terms. Three seats are up every year for election.
