Asbury Lanes Diner reopens with new menu
"We see the reopening of Asbury Lanes Diner as an opportunity to honor the tried-and-true diner classics"
The Asbury Lanes Diner celebrates its reopening on Sunday (August 1) with a reimagined menu from Executive Chef Michael Dunston that streeses local, sustainable and organic ingredients whenever possible.
Hours will be 8 am to midnight, Thursday through Sunday. Dunston also oversses the culinary programming at Asbury Ocean Club and The Asbury hotel. The Asbury Lanes and Asbury Lanes Diner are located on Fourth Avenue, just west of Kingsley Street.
“Eating a delicious meal at a diner, whether for breakfast, late night, or any time in-between has always been an important pastime in New Jersey,” said Dunston, an Ocean County native. “We see the reopening of Asbury Lanes Diner as an opportunity to honor the tried-and-true diner classics we grew up with through a celebration of local ingredients and modern cooking techniques.”
Among the diner’s signature dishes are the B.E.C., a grilled egg and cheese sandwich on a Kaiser roll, with local, hand-cut bacon so delicious Dunston thought he “tasted heaven” when he first tried it. Plus Haddock and Chips with fish so fresh “they are sometimes still moving when delivered,” joked Dunston. Also on the menu are Classic Lanes Tots loaded with toppings inspired by Dunston’s memories of the quintessential Asbury Lanes bowling snack.
Dunston’s menu spotlights fresh ingredients sourced from local suppliers, some of whom include Local 130 Seafood of Asbury Park, which takes its name and products from the state’s 130-mile-long coast; Vrola, a supplier of specialty meat blends in South Amboy; and premium proteins from Marcho Farms just an hour away in Souderton, Pennsylvania.
No visit is complete without a Boozy Milkshake, a unique offering in Asbury Park, and something that can only be found at the Asbury Lanes Diner. The mouthwatering shake offerings include ‘Bananas For You,’ ‘Have S’more,’ ‘Death by Chocolate,’ and ‘Key Lime Pie,’ as well as seasonal and holiday-themed specialties such as ‘Strawberry-Elderflower’ in the summertime. Each shake can be made without alcohol, and packaged to go (alcohol-free only).
The décor of the Asbury Lanes Diner still “sets a scene as inspired as the menu,” according to a news release issued by the diner.
“Retro booths and banquette seating stand out with brilliant turquoise upholstery, while hanging lamps light up white tabletops and black-and-white tile flooring, recalling 60s-era malt shops,” the release stated. “Vintage concert posters saved from the original Asbury Lanes pay homage to its place in history as a legendary rock and roll venue, alongside The Stone Pony, the Saint and more, creating an authentic and inviting sense of place.”
Asbury Lanes is also back open for business and currently has more than 10 shows scheduled through the end of the year, with new dates being added on an ongoing basis.
