Johnny Mac is taking names
An unusual $500 challenge in the waterfront redevelopment area
Johnny Mac is taking names.
As reported in the triCityNews newspaper two weeks ago, John McGillion, the owner of Johnny Mac’s bar on Main Street, has taken ownership of the former Adriatic restaurant on Kingsley Avenue.
And he wants you to name the place.
“NAME THIS BAR” is now the message on the old Adriatic sign out front. A gmail address is given to submit your entry so you can take your shot at the $500 award for the winner.
The site appears to be undergoing a complete gutting and rehabilitation. Early yesterday morning, a cement truck was sending cement deep into the structure.
Meanwhile, as evidenced by the rainbow flags on the building, a gay-themed bar is expected.
The Adriatic was among the last businesses in Asbury Park dating back to the 1970s. Last month, long-time owners Stanley and Marie Tokic sold it to Asbury Park restaurant owner Marilyn Schlossbach, who in turn flipped it to John McGillion, the triCityNews reported.
McGillion with two other partners also has a contract to buy the landmark YMCA building on Main Street, and the group has announced that will also reopen as a gay-themed resort.
