Free-parking Wednesdays extended through May
Business community benefits from extension, mayor says
Free-parking Wednesdays have been extended until May 30, according to Mayor Ed Johnson.
Throughout the winter, visitors and residents have enjoyed free parking in the downtown and on the waterfront on Wednesdays. That program was slated to end this month, but the mayor recommended an extension.
“It has really benefited the business community,” Johnson said.
The meters are programmed not to accept payment on Wednesdays. A message appears on the meter’s electronic screen advising of the free parking when payment is attempted.
The mayor also said he hopes the free parking will draw more of an audience to the Asbury Park School District’s 12th Annual Art Showcase. That event is slated for Wednesday, May 30, at Convention Hall from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Thursday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
