The Asbury Park Half Marathon is on for April 20, despite devastation from Hurricane Sandy last year.
The original course was destroyed by the hurricane, but the Jersey Shore Running Club RunAPalooza Race Committee has developed a new route, according to a prepared release.
The run will start and finish in Asbury Park and head north to include Loch Arbour, Allenhurst and Deal. The final route details are still being developed.
Registration is now open and the field will be limited, so runners are encouraged to sign up soon.
The event will be a fundraiser for the Special Olympics of New Jersey. Organizers will also donate to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
Organizers are also working on an alternative to the Jersey Shore Relay Marathon, which is also part of RunAPalooza. The course for that is from Seaside Heights to Asbury Park, and will not be ready for this year’s event. Details of that plan will be released soon.
A post-race party will be held at Convention Hall with food, drinks, bands, entertainment and a runners’ expo.
