Man found in street with gunshot wound, police say
26-year-old in stable condition
An Asbury Park man was found with a gunshot wound in his abdomen on Monroe Avenue, Police Chief Mark Kinmon has said.
The 26-year-old was found on Monroe Avenue, between Comstock and Langford streets, on Tuesday morning just after midnight, at which point the police were called, Kinmon said. Police are not releasing the victim’s name.
He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition, Kinmon said.
Police are still trying to determine the exact circumstances of the case, including where the shooting occurred, Kinmon said. The city is working with the Prosecutor’s Office and no arrests have yet been made.
This was the first shooting in the city since Christmas night, Kinmon said.
On Dec. 25, 2012, police were dispatched to the 1500 block of Sewall Avenue, between Ridge and Prospect avenues, at about 10:10 p.m., Kinmon said. They found a 22-year-old male and a 26-year-old female, both city residents, with gunshot wounds in their arms.
“They both reported that they were sitting in their vehicle when a car drove by and fired gunshots at them,” Kinmon said.
The police are not releasing those victims’ names. The incident is still under investigation, Kinmon said.
