Man, 19, arrested for gun possession after foot chase, cops say
Arrest took place just after 2 p.m.
A Neptune man was arrested just after 2 p.m. yesterday after giving police chase, according to Asbury Park Police Captain Anthony Salerno. The man allegedly had been in possession of a gun.
During an investigation in the area of Sewall Avenue and Winn Street, the department’s narcotics and gang unit attempted to stop Lancelot Groves, 19, Salerno said. Groves fled on foot and after a short chase, police arrested him on Bangs and Ridge avenues after they saw him throw a 380-caliber semi-automatic handgun while running, Salerno said.
Groves was charged with possession of a weapon, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest, Salerno said. He was taken to Monmouth County Correctional Institution in lieu of $125,000 bail with no 10-percent option.
The investigating officer in this case is Ptl. Joseph Spallina and the arresting officer was Det. Darrius Davis.
