Police officials have announced the closing of railroad crossing this week in Asbury Park and Interlaken.

The Asbury Park Police Department has issued an advisory alerting motorists and travelers that the Springwood Avenue railroad crossing will close Thursday for one week.railroad repair

The crossing is nearest to the city’s transportation center, located on Main St and Springwood Avenue.

A part of New Jersey Department of Transportation Railroad Crossing Rehabilitation project, the intersection will be blocked from 7 a.m. Thursday to 7 p.m. Sept. 15, local officials said

Traffic will be detoured to Memorial Drive and Bangs Avenue, according to the advisory.

In Interlaken, the Grassmere Avenue Railroad crossing is expected to close on or about Friday, according to a Deal Police Department advisory.

No completion date has been set but officials will post updates as they become available.

Officials of both communities advise motorists to plan alternate routes of travel.

The NJDOT Railroad Crossing Rehabilitation project is aimed at conducting necessary safety work, state officials have said. Existing railroad planks are being removed and replaced with concrete foundation and asphalt approach.

The replacement is part of a federally-funded project within the NJDOT railroad grade-crossing safety program, which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings statewide each year.
