Alert: Coastal Flood Warning in effect until 1:00 a.m. Saturday

The Asbury Park Police Department has issued a coastal Flood Warning alert that remains in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday.

Coastal flooding is expected with the high tide cycles, with ocean wave heights reaching 5 to 8 feet, according to the alert. Widespread flooding in expected Friday night when high tide is expected to occur between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m.

Those in flood prone zones are warned to take protective measurer, including moving vehicles to higher ground.

Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters, the alert warns. The water may be deeper than you think and you will be putting yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged.

The National Weather Service forecasts a 52 degree high and a 48 degree low, with northeast wind gusts reaching up to 32 miles per hour. Showers, periods of heavey rainfall and a thunderstorm are possible before 3 p.m.
