The Allenhurst Police Department is investigating the cause of a Wednesday afternoon van fire along the boardwalk.

Department spokesman Captain Michael B. Schneider said police responded near 2:30 p.m. to a report of a vehicle fire.

Within one minute of the call, Patrolman Marc Eustace reported the vehicle was heavily engulfed at its front end. As Eustace went to obtain a fire extinguisher the entire vehicle became engulfed.

Schneider said quick response from the Allenhurst and Deal fire departments led to containment of the fire with minimum damage to the adjacent boardwalk. A vehicle parked in front of the van also sustained moderate damage to its bumper area.

There were no reported injuries, Schneider said.
