From Aug. 24 to Sept. 3, the Allenhurst Police Department reported the following incidents:
AUG. 24
• A 27-year-old man from Newark was stopped for an equipment violation. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant from East Hanover, taken into custody without incident, processed, and released on his own recognizance with a new court date. He was issued Allenhurst traffic summonses for improper display of license plates and failure to produce a document. His vehicle was temporarily impounded until the proof of ownership could be determined. Patrolman Scott Rapolla was the arresting officer and was assisted by Ptl. Marc Eustace.
AUG. 25
• Police arrested a 45-year-old Highlands woman after stopping her for a motor vehicle violation. Initially, she failed to yield to a Borough Police officer at an intersection, nearly causing an accident. Before officers were able to stop her vehicle she pulled into a private driveway in Loch Arbor. Police found that her license was suspended due to multiple driving while intoxicated [DWI] convictions, and she was placed in custody. She was processed and eventually released on a bond. She was charged with traffic summonses for failure to yield at an intersection, driving while suspended, and displaying a fraudulent inspection sticker. The driving while suspended charge was a fourth degree crime, due to her prior DWI convictions. She was also given a criminal summons for trespassing. Her vehicle was temporarily impounded, pending possible civil forfeiture. Special Officer Anthony Carafa was the arresting officer and was assisted by Ptl. Rapolla and Captain Michael Schneider.
AUG. 26
• Police pulled over a 37-year-old Long Branch woman at a motor vehicle stop. She was arrested when officers found an outstanding warrant for her arrest out of Oceanport. She was taken into custody, processed, and turned over to Oceanport officers in default of bail. There were no local charges filed. The vehicle was turned over at the scene to a licensed driver. Ptl. Rapolla was was arresting officer.
• While police were checking on reports of suspicious individuals the suspects fled on foot. They were caught and taken into custody. All four were found to be juveniles and were released to a parent or guardian. Juvenile charges for drug possession, resisting arrest and trespassing will be filed against three of the four juveniles in Family Court. Ptl. Rapolla was the arresting officer and was assisted by Ptl. DiBona and SO Carafa.
AUG. 27
• Police stopped a 55-year-old woman from Brooklyn, N.Y., after she failed to stop at two consecutive stop signs and improperly passed a vehicle in Deal. The driver complained of feeling ill during the stop, and was allowed to proceed to her destination. Two Allenhurst traffic summonses for failure to observe a stop sign and a traffic summons in Deal for improper passing were mailed to the woman. Sergeant James Rogers was the investigating officer.
• A 32-year-old woman from Ocean Township was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of West Long Branch. While being processed at police headquarters she was found to be in possession of a pepper spray container which exceeded the legal size allowed for a civilians. She was able to put cash bail on the warrant and was issued an Allenhurst traffic summons for driving while suspended and possession of a prohibited weapon. Ptl. Rapolla was the arresting officer and was assisted by Ptl. Dave Lipari.
AUG. 31
• The Allenhurst Police responded to a reported tree on fire behind a residence on Corlies Avenue. Upon arrival officers found that a power line had fallen and set some of the landscaping on fire. The Allenhurst Fire Department responded and extinguished the brush fire before any structures were in jeopardy. The Fire Department and Police remained on the scene until JCP&L workers took over. Sgt. Rogers responded with Ptl. Eric Scamporino, Ptl. Rapolla, and SO Carafa.
SEPT. 1
• A 39-year-old Long Branch woman was stopped for driving erratically, but was found to not be intoxicated. She was issued three Allenhurst summonses for driving an unregistered vehicle, failure to keep right, and failure to use a turn signal. Ptl. Lipari was the investigating officer and was assisted by SO Carafa.
SEPT. 2
• The Allenhurst Police arrested a 34-year-old Belmar man after stopping him for erratic driving. He was processed and released to a sober adult. His vehicle was impounded. He was issued traffic summonses for driving while intoxicated [DWI], reckless driving, failure to keep right, improper display of license plates, driving without a license, and driving while suspended. Ptl. Lipari was the arresting officer.
SEPT. 3
• After receiving a report of a possible suicidal subject Ptl. Lipari conducted a search of the area and found the subject hidden in the bushes alongside the railroad tracks. She was taken into protective custody and transported to the Monmouth Medical Center Crisis Center for evaluation by the Allenhurst First Aid Squad.
• From Aug. 24 to 31, the police arrested three additional individuals on various contempt of court warrants.
