Amy Poehler’s Upright Citizens Brigade lands on Asbury
House of Independents first comedy show set for 8 p.m. Friday
The weather outside may be frightful but that can’t stop the Upright Citizens Brigade [UCB] from coming to town for their 8 p.m. show at the House of Independents on Cookman Avenue.
Founded by Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh, UCB is the House of Independents first official comedy show, spokesman Adam Nelson said.
UCB’s touring company is comprised of improv comedians from its Los Angeles and New York clubs. Among them is Jenny St. Angelo, a member since January 2012.
“Improv, for me, and for a lot of people I think, is a great art form for finding your specific creative voice in a nurturing environment,” St. Angelo said. “By nature, if you’re being a good improv partner, you’re supporting ideas beyond your own. You’re learning how to communicate, and more importantly, to listen.”
UCB performers have appeared in Broad City, Saturday Night Live, Silicon Valley, Veep, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, as well as Bridesmaids, The Hangover, and The Heat. Writing room credits include Key and Peele, the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and Inside Amy Schumer.
“I have been lucky enough to work with some of the funniest people out there,” St. Angelo said. “It allows me to absorb some of their genius.
General admission tickets for tonight’s show are $20, with the doors opening at 7 p.m. For more information or to purchase a ticket, visit www.houseofindependents.com
