An Evening of New York Times Op-Docs Comes To Asbury Park
Emmy Award winning short documentary series screens Aug 6 at The ShowRoom Cinema On Cookman Ave
The New York Times has teamed up with Asbury Park’s local independent art movie house The ShowRoom to feature five short films from its Emmy Award winning short documentary series – Op-Docs.
On the bill are:
“My Dead Dad’s Porno Tapes” by Charlie Tyrell, a 2018 Sundance Film Festival premiere.
“The Happiest Guy in the World” by Harvard undergraduate Lance Oppenheim, about a man who boarded his first cruise 20 years ago and hasn’t returned.
“The Last Storm” by Liam Saint-Pierre, about a man battling cancer and storm chasing.
“The Rebel Puppeteers of Sudan” by Roopa Gogineni, about a satirical puppet show that mocks an authoritarian ruler.
And, “The Blue Line” by Brooklyn-based Samantha Knowles, about racial tensions in her hometown.
The screening will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and 8:30 to 10 p.m. Aug 6 and will feature a discussion with the filmmakers, along with Op-Docs supervising editor Andrew Blackwell.
The ShowRoom Cinema is located at 707 Cookman Ave. Tickets are $15, available for purchase here.
