AND THE NOMINEES ARE…
Asbury Music Awards returns to The Stone Pony; over 25 awards at stake
The 23rd Annual Asbury Music Award [AMA] categories are jam-packed with nominees as varied as the city’s music scene.
Hosted by comedian Taylor Allen, the local entertainment accolade features over 40 awards presented by guest presenters, according to its social media website.
The event, presented by The Saint in conjunction with Asbury Music Co., begins 6:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at The Stone Pony.
Of course there are the classic nominations such as Top Male/Female vocalist but the AMAs also recognize those along their beaten path, like Top Music Photographer or Journalist as well as a Poet Laureate and Top Hang-Out Bar. New this year are categories like ‘Top Horn Player.’
The over 10 slated live musical performances include: CHRIS BROWN, THE SHADY STREET SHOW BAND, LOWLIGHT, JOSEPH MAKOVIECKI of THOMAS WESLEY STERN, DENTIST, DARK CITY STRINGS, PAT DINIZIO of THE SMITHEREENS, POET LAUREATE KEITH BAIRD, SANDY MACK BAND, WILLIAMS HONOR, UFOTOFU, and TAYLOR TOTE.
The AMA acknowledges established members of the Jersey Shore music community as well as up and coming artists.
Nominees are selected by a panel of veteran industry professionals, including promoters, sound technicians, radio personalities, music writers, fans and club owners. Votes are cast by approved AMA delegate musicians, fans and industry insiders.
Founded by The Saint’s Scott Stamper, the first AMA was held at The Golden T-Bird on Main Street in 1993. The AMA award was designed by Stamper and Peter Mantas, former of The Saint and now Entertainment Direct at Langosta Lounge and the Asbury Yacht Club, along the Asbury Park boardwalk, according their website.
The AMA has been held at The Stone Pony since 2003.
Doors open at 6pm, with the show beginning promptly at 6:30pm. Advance $15 tickets are on sale at The Saint and Stone Pony box offices and via Ticketweb and Ticketmaster. Admission at the door is $20.
