Annual Asbury Park AIDS Walk Raises Over $23K
The Center Sponsored Event Given Recognition By Sen Vin Gopal
Over $23,000 was raised via Sunday’s Annual AIDS Walk sponsored by The Center in Asbury Park.
“The Center provides life saving support for so many in Asbury Park and surrounding communities,” said Garden State Equality Executive Director Christian Fuscarino. “[We are] proud to support them and their efforts.”
The all volunteer nonprofit, located on Third Avenue and headed by Rev. Robert. F. Kaeding [known as Father Bob], has been providing support services for people living with HIV/AIDS and their caregivers since 1992.
The Center joined the AIDS Walk initiative in 2011, hosting one of five fundraising walks across the state.
Sen. Vin Gopal awarded the group with a proclamation and Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn addressed the crowd.
“Places like The Center organizing the aids walk is a reminder for all of us of the amazing work they are doing,” Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn said. “And a place like the center survives on donations like the Aids Walk to make sure people with HIV/AIDS have a place to live.”
In total, the five walk events raised $230,799. Local donations are still being accepted via njaidswalk.org/asbury-park, and those made via the MAC NJC Team will be matched dollar for dollar by the AIDS Fund.
