Annual Pink Prom Returns Friday to Hotel Tides W/ An After Party At Georgies
Event held in support of Garden State Equality, an LGBT support agency
Prom season is on its way and with it comes the Fifth Annual Pink Prom event at Hotel Tides on Seventh Avenue.
“Living in the gay scene of Asbury Park, the prom holds such a special meaning for me,” founder Eric Pinckney said. “I look forward to it every year.”
This year’s event will occur from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday, in support Garden State Equality on Main Street in Asbury Park.
Founded in 2004, Garden State Equality works in support of the LGBT community through education, advocacy, and service. The organization moved its headquarters to Asbury Park in July.
It presents a great opportunity for the LGBT community to come together, dress up in fancy tuxedos and gowns, and help to promote a worthy cause, hotel manager Ryan Jimenez said in a written statement.
Headlining the 21 and over event will be the New Jersey Gay Men’s Chorus, with dancing to the spins of DJ Mick Hale. Passed hors d’oeuvres will precede a buffet dinner and desserts by Confections of a Rock$tar. There will be complimentary spiked punch bowls and a cash bar.
A local photographer will be on hand to snap those memorable prom photos and the 2017 Prom King and Queen presentation. Guests will have chances to participate in a silent auction and will receive a complimentary swag bag and special commemorative book.
“The Pink Prom has become one of the most anticipated and successful fundraising events in New Jersey,” Pinckney said. “The event has sold out each year in a little over a week, and it shows how much the LGBTQ community will come together to support a worthy cause… and also to party at a swanky event.”
This year, an after party will be held at Georgies Bar, located at 810 Fifth Avenue, featuring a special performance by Lady Marisa – the award presentation host.
Those awards include those for “best drag,” “best smile,” “best dressed,” “class clown,” and “Miss Congeniality.” Nominees are determined at the prom, with the top 3 vote getters vying for the accolades.
A free shuttle service featuring DJ Stanley Stylez will run from the prom venue to Georgies.
Tickets are $80 per person, available at Hotel Tides, located at 408 Seventh Ave, or via www.hoteltides.com. Discounted weekend rooms are available at Hotel Tides with promo code “prom.”
