Annual Pugapalooza turns into a Puggin Weekend
Wonder Bar and Empress Hotel to host fundraising events
It’s a weekend celebration in recognition of man’s best friend.
The City’s annual Pugapalooza kicks off Friday night and will run through Sunday, organizer Connie Breech said. Proceeds from the weekend extravaganza will benefit Curly Tail Pug Rescue Northeast branch, which supports volunteer efforts across the region, Breech said.
The nonprofit rescue organization works to save and rehabilitate owner surrendered, puppy mill, homeless, unwanted, sick, and/or injured Pugs.
“We fully rehabilitate medically needy pugs,” a website statement reads. “We also provide behavior modification [if needed] to help place them into loving, permanent homes. Our goal is to set up our Pugs for success.”

The organization has placed Pugs throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island and the New England area – often as far as Maine and New Hampshire.
“It’s my fourth year but the first time we are holding a weekend event,” Breech said.
Light hors d’oeuvres will be served during the 7 p.m. Pugs and Peep Meet and Greet event at The Empress Hotel, she said. The cover fee is $5.
The Saturday 1 to 5 p.m. main event will be held at The Wonder Bar, located at Fifth and Ocean avenues. Complete with vendors, music, and raffle prizes, there will be a $5 donation cover charge.
Sunday’s Pig Pug Brunch and Promenade at the Wonder Bar kicks off at 11 a.m., with the boardwalk march of the pugs commencing at 1 p.m. The suggest cover donation is $15 and prizes will be awarded, Breech said.
