Anti-police violence protest Thursday at Asbury post office
Demands include a citizen review board, reallocation of budget to social needs
An Asbury Park protest against police violence will take place on Thursday at 6:30 pm at the Asbury Park post office, according to a statement by the Asbury Park Transformative Justice Project.
The following is the statement provided by Derek Minno-Bloom of the Transformative Justice Project:
Greetings From the Asbury Park Transformative Justice Project,
The Family of Hasani Best, Asbury Park Demands Oversight, Help Not Handcuffs and the Asbury Park Transformative Justice Project are organizing The National Day Against Police Violence protest in Asbury Park, Thursday October 22nd at 6:30PM on Federal Land on the Post Office Steps of Asbury Park, 801 Bangs Ave, Asbury Park, NJ 07712.
We are organizing this Rally because 996 people in the United States (Turtle Island) were killed by police in 2019. We are protesting because Indigenous, Black and People of Color are being killed at way higher rates than European Americans. We say no to this great injustice! We are also protesting to recognize that the police commit violence in our communities when they criminalize our Indigenous, Black, People of Color and low-income community members. We need more mental health centers and less prisons. We want Justice for Hasani Best, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tamir Rice, and Jason Manzo.
On a more local note we have four main Demands:
1. We demand that Officer Sean Deshader immediately be fired for the murder of Hasani Best.

2. We Demand that Officer Sean Deshader immediately be charged with murder!
3. We demand that Asbury Park creates a long-lasting Citizen Review Board to make sure our community enforces consistent police accountability. See our Video here!
4. We demand that money be relocated from the Asbury Park City Budget from the police and be redistributed to social services, community needs and housing.
Come protest with us in Asbury Park Thursday October 22nd at 6:30PM on Federal Land on the Post Office steps in Asbury Park, 801 Bangs Ave, Asbury Park, NJ 07712!
