AP Education Justice Collective to host feminism discussion
Goal of Feb 22 event to create Men's Feminist Group - all are welcome
Inspired by the local and global Women’s March, the Asbury Park Education Justice Collective has announced on open discussion event on the importance of men [any male identified person] taking up feminism.
“We will talk about first, second, and third wave, women of color feminism, and why straight, gay, and queer men need a feminist praxis,” organizer Derek Minno Bloom said. “Currently, one in four women experience sexual violence in this country and 99% of that violence is perpetrated by men. Men must organize to stop male violence and sexism.”
Bloom said people of all ethnicity, sexuality, and gender are welcome to participate in the conversation but that the end goal is to start a men’s feminist group.
The event will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Asbury Park Library, located at 500 First Ave. For more about the Collective, visit their Facebook page here.
