Asbury Park police officer Alix Antoine, 36, and his sister were arrested and charged in connection with an insurance fraud scheme, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced Tuesay.
A Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office investigation revealed that Antoine documents in connection with his employment as a police officer enabling Patricia to obtain medical benefits she was not entitled to receive.
Antoine, a 12-year veteran of the city’s police force, is charged with second degree official misconduct, conspiracy to commit official misconduct, insurance fraud, and tampering with public record – a third degree crime.
According to state public records, Antoine’s salary as a patrolman was $90,384.
Antoine was remanded to the Monmouth County Jail in lieu of $150,000 cash bail, meaning no chance of posting a 10 percent bond. Monmouth County Superior Court Judge also ordered Antoine to surrender his passport and all firearms.
Antoine’s sister Patricia Louis, also known as Patricia Antoine, 43, of Clifton also was charged second degree conspiracy to commit official misconduct and insurance fraud. She was released on her own recognizance pending a future court date, and also was ordered to surrender her passport.
If convicted of official misconduct, Antoine faces a maximum 10-year sentence, with no chance of parole until serving 5 years. Each of the other second-degree counts carry a maximum 10 year sentence. The tampering charge carries a three to five year prison sentence.
The case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Jacquelynn Seely, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Charlie Webster said.
