The Asbury Park Fire Department has issued a Heavy rain and Wind advisory for the weekend.
Tropical Storm Joaquin is being watched closely, Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Garrett Giberson said.
“In preparation of this weekend’s storm the City is lowering the lakes and clearing debris from storm drains in trouble areas,” Giberson said. “Please secure any items that can be blown around by the wind such as patio furniture, light weight items, trash cans, etc.”
No determination has been made to cancel scheduled events like Friday morning’s Asbury Agile event or Saturday’s Zombie Walk and city-wide yard sale, Giberson said.
According to TriStateStormWatch.com, a nor’easter will hit hardest from Friday through Sunday but rain is expected to begin late Tuesday night and continue through Wednesday with an accompanying cold front. No wind or coastal flooding impact is expected but intermittent rain will continue through Thursday.
Gusty northeast winds will be with us from Thursday through Sunday with minor coastal flooding becoming likely by the weekend, according to the forecast.
But Giberson said we are still two days out and it’s a bit too premature to make any calls with any degree of certainty.
