This month, the Asbury Park Fire Department [APDF] isn’t just fighting fires.

In recognition of October’s status as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the APFD has joined the fight against breast cancer. For the entire month, members of the department will don pink T-shirts with the department logo on them. The shirts are available for purchase, and all proceeds will be donated to breast cancer research.

“As part of a nationwide firefighters initiative, firefighters throughout the country are wearing pink T-shirts for the month of October to promote breast cancer awareness,” said Fire Chief Kevin Keddy.

The Asbury Park squad asked him if their department could join in the effort, and Keddy was happy to oblige, he said.

Throughout October, the APFD will accept donations and sell the T-shirts at the firehouse to support breast cancer research, awareness, education and treatment, Keddy said. The shirts cost $20 each and will be around as long as supplies last.
