APMF & Lakehouse Music Academy Join Forces
Big Give At The Big Gig Three-Day Event Will Support Youth Music Education
Two city organizations with their eye on fostering music education programs for the next generation have joined forces.
Next month, the Asbury Park Music Foundation [APMF] will participate in Lakehouse Music Academy’s end of semester live performance event known as the Big Gig.
Being held from June 22 to 24 at the Wonder Bar [1213 Ocean Ave], the event will help raise funds for the APMF Music Saved My Life youth education program.
“This is a huge opportunity for music-lovers to give back and provide underserved youth in our city with music education and life-changing skills,” APMF Chair Jim Lenskold said. “These kids are the next generation of the Asbury Park music scene who are writing, recording and performing music while building relationships and skills that will last a lifetime.”
The 3-day event, will feature raffles for new instruments, a 50/50, and sales of the signature Music Saved Asbury Park t-shirts, with proceeds going directly towards providing music education opportunities for Asbury Park students.
The goal at this Big Gig is to continue fundraising efforts while increasing visibility to the Foundation programs and the students impacted by these programs, Lenskold said.
“There is no admission fee for the Big Gig throughout the entire weekend,” Lakehouse Music Academy founder Jon Leidersdorff said. “People have appreciated this policy and have asked if there is some way that they can support the community. The answer is simple – 100 percent of the donations to the multiple fundraisers throughout the weekend go directly to APMF and their efforts to support the youth in Asbury Park.”
The Big Gig is a star-studded red carpet style experience that allows Lakehouse Music Academy students [of all ages] to showcase their talents and the songs they’ve learned before a supportive crowd of family and friends.
This time around, over 65 bands of all ages will perform on the Wonder Bar stage, including dozens of youth who are recipients of scholarships funded by APMF.
