APPD Launches Surveillance Camera Registration Program
Requests To View Business and Residential Cameras Will Be Made To Help With Investigations
The Asbury Park Police Department is asking residents and businesses throughout the City to register privately owned surveillance cameras in order to assist the department with investigations when necessary, city officials announced via a news statement Thursday afternoon.
“The Asbury Park Police Department is committed to utilizing every resource to prevent and solve crimes, and to protect our citizens and their property,” the statement read. “Many residents and businesses are now utilizing surveillance cameras that may capture incidents, without the owner’s knowledge, which may help solve crimes and keep the town safe.”
As officers respond to reports of criminal activity within the community, they may be able to use footage captured on surveillance cameras to assist in the apprehension and prosecution criminals, officials said.
The program is voluntary and officials said owner information will not be shared.
Participants of the program will only be contacted if there is an incident within the vicinity of their camera system, officials said. Asbury Park police officers or detectives would need to make a request to view footage.
Questions about the program can be directed to the Department’s Spokesman Sgt Michael Casey at 732-502-5705. To register, click here.
