APTV Hosts Candidates’ Forum at House of Independents
Questions sought for 7 p.m. Tuesday City Council public debate
The municipality’s Asbury Park Public Access Television Station [APTV] is partnering with the League of Women Voters to host a public forum debate featuring the six candidates vying for three City Council seats in the Nov 8 election.
The free public forum will begin at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 [doors open at 6:30 p.m.] at the House of Independents, located at 572 Cookman Ave.
The six of the candidates on the ballot have agreed to take part in the forum, APTV organizers said.
The Asbury Together incumbent ticket comprised of Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn and Council Members Yvonne Clayton and Eileen Chapman [shown below left, respectively] are being challenged by the Citizens For Asbury Park ticket made up of Zoning Board member Daniel Harris, and Board of Education members Stephen Williams and Kenneth Saunders, Jr [shown below right, respectively].
The forum will be moderated by Bill Madden of The League of Women voters of Ocean Township, with questions given by reporters Joanne Papaianni of The Coaster and Michelle Gladden of the Asbury Park Sun.
In addition to questions from the reporters, members of the public can submit questions for the candidates by e-mail to info@AsburyParkTV.org.
The event will be videotaped by and shown on APTV’s Public Access channels – Cablevision 77 and Verizon/FIOS Channel 30 starting Nov 1, airing continually through Nov. 8. It will also be available for screening via asburyparktv.org.
APTV has also produced “Up Close and Personal,” a profile that allows each candidate to speak directly to voters about who they are, why they chose to run, and what they plan to do if elected. The profiles also will air through election day and will be available via asburyparktv.org.
