‘APTV Wants You’ campaign aims to recruit volunteers
All welcome at 7 p.m. Thursday event in council chambers
Asbury Park’s television station [APTV] will be holding a community information session designed to recruit volunteers interested in television production and broadcasting.
“APTV Wants You” will be held 7 p.m. Thursday in the Asbury Park City Council Chambers, located at 1 Municipal Plaza.
The station broadcasts programs created and presented by the community, its government, and businesses. Aside from documenting civic meetings they have developed cultural and educational features.
“APTV provides broadcasts that respond to the interests and concerns of the community and present programming that highlights issues and showcases matters relating to Asbury Park,” volunteer coordinator Heera Sidhu said.
Its municipal appointed 9- member advisory committee assists with development and oversee the operation of city’s public access channels.
The recruiting event will highlight opportunities with APTV where they can learn and develop multimedia and public speaking skills, Sidhu said. Interested individuals of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.
“There will be segments on APTV regular programming and special event programming, as well as, how independent producers can submit their productions for broadcast on APTV,” Sidhu said. “Following a hands-on demonstration of professional video equipment, there will be a look into the future of APTV.”
The Asbury Park Cable Television Advisory Committee was created by a resolution adopted by the Asbury Park City Council on December 5, 2012. It runs on a $25,000 annual budget funded by the muncipality via cable franchise fees. The television station has been broadcasting since 2013 on channel 30 on Verizon FiOS, channel 77 on Cablevision Optimum, and on-demand at http://www.asburyparktv.org.
Their office is located on the second floor of city hall at 1 Municipal Plaza. The APTV meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month in their office.
