The owners of Mogo, the Korean taco pop-up on the Asbury boardwalk, are still unsure when weekly bonfires will begin.
“We are still trying to figure out the logistics of utilizing [Department of Public Works] sources,” said Sam Chung, co-owner of Mogo. “Next week is crazy because it is the Fourth [of July], but we hope to start the bonfires by July 12.”
Last week, the Sun reported Chung and his business partner, Jay Devino, had secured every Friday until the end of September to host the weekly bonfires through a special event application that was passed by the City Council. However, the two lacked the manpower necessary to transport the firewood to the beach and and clean up the debris after the event.
Tom Gilmour, city special events coordinator, planned to arrange a meeting between the Department of Public Works, the fire marshall, Mogo owners Chung and his business partner Jay Devino and the special events committee to work out those logistical details.
That meeting has not taken place yet, according to Chung.
“Until that meeting happens, we can’t promise anything,” said Chung.
