Asbury Fourth of July fireworks are on, Gilmour says
Display will be similar to last year's show
Fourth of July fireworks will be held in Asbury Park this year, according to the city’s director of commerce and economic development.
“We do have enough money to do the fireworks,” said Tom Gilmour. “We are negotiating with a [fireworks] vendor right now, but I’ve been assured that it’s going to happen.”
There is also a back-up fireworks vendor available if negotiations fall through, he said.
This year’s fireworks “will be similar to last year’s, which was an excellent show,” Gilmour said.
Gilmour declined to specify the amount of funding available for the fireworks, or its sources.
The Sun reported earlier this week that the Wednesday fireworks series sponsored by boardwalk redeveloper Madison Marquette has been cancelled after four summers. A company representative also said Madison was “in talks” with the city as to who would sponsor the Fourth of July fireworks this year, which had not yet been finalized, the Sun article previously reported.
Recent Fourth of July fireworks have been jointly sponsored by Madison Marquette and the city.
