Downtown farmer’s market Asbury Fresh is returning this year to bring fresh, local produce to downtown Asbury Park.
The market will take place on Sunday afternoons in June, July and August according to a prepared release. It will include local produce vendors, purveyors of artisan goods and crafts, nutritional counselors and other creative, sustainable companies.
“We believe that Asbury deserves a market that will nurture our sense of community, provide our neighborhood and those around us with fresh, local produce, so come and join our family,” lead organizer Bret Morgan [pictured, left] is quoted as saying in the release. Morgan is also co-founder of Bands on a Budget and Cowerks, both of which are based in downtown Asbury Park.
Michelle Zarella [pictured, right], Asbury Park resident and Bands on a Budget employee, is co-organizing the weekly market. Zarella is taking inspiration from farmer and artisan markets she has encountered in her travels.
“We are really excited to recreate something like that where we live and work,” Zarella said.
The market will kick off on June 23 and will take place every Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at Kennedy Park, located next to Ivan and Andy’s on Cookman Avenue. For more information, visit asburyfresh.com.
