Asbury Fresh Fundraiser for Empowerment
July 22 yoga and concert event to support Humanity Unified
Asbury Fresh organizers want you to enjoy music, dance and, if the Om strikes, participate in a yoga class in support of empowering communities to rise out of poverty through education, food security programs and economic opportunities.
The city’s outdoor farmer’s and crafter’s market, held Friday nights and Sunday afternoons in Kennedy Park, will hold a fundraising yoga class and concert in support of the Princeton-based nonprofit Humanity Unified.
The international network began in 2014 as a resource to help support 100 Rwandan women and their families. Rwanda suffered one of the worst genocides the world has ever seen, with an estimated 500,000 to 1 million people killed during a 100-day period from April 7 to mid-July 1994.
Today, the group works with local organizations to help fund projects that empower women and children through education, economic opportunities and sustainable agriculture programs.
The Asbury Fresh market opens at 5:30 p.m., with the fundraising events kicking off at 7 p.m. July 22 in Kennedy Park, located at Cookman and Grand avenues.
An hour-long yoga class led by Christa Russo & Annie Amio will be followed by a benefit concert performed by Goodbye Tiger, Jersey’s own experimental rock quartet. Following the concert, neighboring Cross & Orange will donate 15 percent of its food and drink proceeds to the nonprofit.
