When the snow melts and harvest ripen, Asbury Fresh will offer those locally grown fruits and vegetables as well as an array of artisinal products.
But this year, the farmer’s market organizers, Bret Morgan and Michelle Zarella, are looking to expand in more ways than one.
This season will open with a box-share program that ensures the best pickings available. Weekly 10- to 20-pound packages of vegetables and fruits will be available for pick up. Offered via Rolling Hills Farm of Lambertville, the summer share cost is $400 and comes with weekly email blasts that showcase recipes.
“It’s a great local farm that produces naturally grown products,” Zarella said. All produce is sustainably grown and hand tended.
Now entering into their fourth season, the Asbury Fresh organizers also are working to expand product offerings.
“Asbury Park has a fantastic food culture, and we would love for it to be represented in the market,” Zarella said. “We would like Asbury Fresh to be a one stop shop for people to pick up the necessities before going home to grill, or make dinner for their families.”
Past years included participation by not only local farms but also by bakers, cheese makers, artists and artisans. This season, the pair want to expand food-related businesses’ participation.
“We like to keep things simple,” Morgan said.
They are now accepting vendor applications. The local farmer’s market opens June 21 and runs through early September.
