Asbury Lanes Springsteen event brings $125K donation to Boys & Girls Club
Party also includes 200 free tickets for Asbury residents
The Asbury Lanes reopening party featuring ‘special guest’ Bruce Springsteen on June 18 will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Monmouth County with a $125,000 donation from waterfront redeveloper iStar, according to a company spokesperson.
Istar owns Asbury Lanes and recently completed a multi-million dollar rehabilitation of the venue, which has a capacity of 740 people. Istar also owns The Asbury hotel, adjacent to Asbury Lanes. Both facilities are run by the same management team, Salt Hotels.
Headlining the June 18 event will be Portugal the Man. In addition, music photographer Danny Clinch’s Tangiers Blues Band will perform.
Two hundred free tickets to the invitation-only opening party are reserved for Asbury Park residents, who will be selected by lottery. One hundred lottery winners will be eligible for two tickets each. Entry into the lottery closed Thursday morning.
Asbury Lanes opened in 1962. It became a music venue over a decade ago.
The Boys & Girls Club of Monmouth County “empowers all young people — especially those who need us most — to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens,” according to the organization’s website.
Open to all children ages 5 1⁄2 to 18, the facility is available to all members during operating hours. The after-school program runs weekdays from 2:30-6 p.m., with snacks and dinner being served to every member. The teen program operates Tuesday – Friday in the evenings until 9 p.m.
The Boys & Girls Club offer various other programs including arts and technology, character and leadership, health and life skills, education and career, and sports and recreation.
